1. Practices will begin Monday Oct. 1st
at the Frank Herald Field House (entry to wrestling room on east side). All practices
will be from 6-8pm every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (some changes during
season due to conflicts with HS sports in gym, which everyone will be advised
of). Shorts, t-shirt, and wrestling shoes is normal practice attire. Those who
don’t have shoes can practice in socks at beginning of year until they have
shoes, but sliding around on socks isn’t ideal for the wrestler and bare feet
are not allowed on the mats. So the sooner they can get shoes the better. Also
due to there being no room for spectators in the wrestling room, we must ask
parents and families to leave the facility until the end of practice after
dropping off your wrestler. This is simply to ensure we don’t have any
incidents at the facility (in or outside the wrestling room) that would
jeopardize us being able to use the gym. Of course there will be a grace period early in the season before we start asking everyone to comply. Parents are welcome to hang out until their little wrestler is acclimated and everyone feels comfortable.
Tournaments will start early Nov. and will
basically be every Saturday until the state tournament in early February. These
will be $15 and will be hosted at other schools in the area. While none are
mandatory we encourage everyone to go to as many as possible. The live match experience
is essential for their wrestling development and they deserve to win something
after practicing hard all week. Singlets and wrestling shoes will be mandatory
Team singlets will be $90, although some various
sizes in older styles may be available for less. They do usually last 2-3 years
so you will not have to buy one every season.
We encourage everyone to wear a team singlet if possible, however it’s
not mandatory if you’d like to buy a non-Jenks singlet elsewhere. We will also have optional warm-up and parents
gear available with details on those to come.
Membership is $100 before Oct. 1st and $125 after. Even if you can't pay immediately your wrestler MUST be registered with the club to be at practice for insurance reasons.
ONE MORE WEEK! SEPT. 24TH UPDATES BELOW
Practices start in one week! Just a few notes and reminders before the
season gets underway.
First there is one more requirement and fee that I forgot to
mention. Every wrestler MUST register individually with USA Wrestling.
Create (or renew for any previous members) account
Purchase $15 “Limited Folkstyle” membership (there
is a more expensive year-long one that is NOT required)
I’m very sorry for forgetting this in previous messages.
This is our first full season with USA Wrestling along with our first season as
club board members. Please forgive me for the oversight but I promise there are
no more mandatory fees that haven’t been mentioned. This $15 membership makes
your wrestler eligible to enter all USA and also makes sure he or she is
covered under the insurance provided by USA Wrestling. Thank you so much for
your understanding and please let me know if anyone has any issues.
Just a few more notes from some questions I’ve received.
All practices are for all ages and while we
encourage wrestlers to be at as many as possible none are mandatory and we
certainly don’t expect anyone to make every single practice.
If anyone has issues with payment through the
website please just register and bring a check to practice.
If you are a new member to Jenks Wrestling and have not received
the previous emails please see the “Recent News” section on jenkswrestling.com
and also like and follow our Facebook page.
If anyone has any questions or needs anything please let me
know… otherwise we’ll see you on the mats!!
